Social Issues
Social Issues are problems or topics that can affect people in a community which can negatively impact their life. Social issues can be present events or can be longstanding problems that are difficult to solve.
Examples of social issues:
1) Economic Issues; Its how to provide unlimited needs and wants with limited resources. Resources such as land, labour, and capital are scarce, people and communities must make choices about how to allocate them.
2) Housing: Affordable Housing; Housing problems refers to the fact that the UK has chronic housing shortages, the Government has failed to provide 300,000 new homes across the UK, yet the Government has managed to provide only 50,000 within the past year, because of the lack of houses, prices will continue to rise.
3) Education Issues; are problems within schools that affect students, some of these problems are demographic changes, globalization, technological advancements, and disparities in educational opportunities within different communities of people.
4) Climate Change; are long term change in weather patterns that controls the Earth's regional and global climates. These changes can range from different observed effects that are synonymous with the term.

Preliminary Secondary Research
1) Housing Problems
Londoners are not getting their needs met, 1/4 of their residents are dealing with poverty after paying their housing costs. Over 300,000 homes are on the waiting list for social housing.
To fix this problem, 3 deeply rooted failures in London's housing market needs to be solved. The UK needs to build more homes to match their growing population rate, through densification and sustainable extensions. The housing market needs to be fair towards low incomes to afford their homes and also collecting more land value by the public investment. Finally the UK needs to plan for housing over the long-term by maintaining investment into homes without volatile, short-term grants.
Shelter England
Shelter England is a charity that campaigns for housing justice in England and Scotland, this campaigns offers advice and information to people and campaigns and lobbies government for new law and policies. Shelter helps people in housing need and laws for policies to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people.
How Shelter England advertises their services
Shelter England has various of different methods they use for their advertisements, some include:
Digital Marketing: Shelter England uses social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn to raise awareness and promote campaigns. Their website also provides their own advertising.
Campaigns and Advertisements: Shelter runs advertisements through various media, including online ads, TV commercials, and print media.
Events and Fundraisers: Shelter organises events and activities such as runs, fundraising walks, to engage the public and raise funds, most of these events are promoted through social media.
Local Outreach: Shelter engages in local community outreach, to support those in need through partnerships and local organisations.
Shelter England Posters - Analysis and Critiques
Design of the poster
The poster is looks clean and presentable, its composed of an image of a ripped piece of paper with a drawing of someone taking a shower with a laptop in her hand which is also paired with a caption saying "Cost-of-living hack #14 Just work more hours! Or the government could make housing more affordable"
This poster tells people that they should work more hours to be able to afford a home, when in reality working more hours won't get you enough money to afford such expense.
I like this poster as it conveys a message that people can understand, without any second thoughts.
2) Economic Issues
What is Marginal Propensity to Consume?
Marginal Propensity to Consume (MPC) is used in economics which describes the proportion of an aggregate raise in pay in which customers spends on goods and services, instead of saving it. MPC is an element of the macroeconomic theory which is calculated as the change of consumption divided by the change in income.
The UK's economy is under pressure from a range of complex and interconnected issues. Inflation, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and stagnation in living standards. The Bank rate is at its highest level yet since 2008, the MPC has signalled that there could be further rate hikes to come given the persistence of inflation. All this has raised a number of key issues that should be taken into consideration by the UK for the outlook of the economy.
The MPC must carefully balance its efforts to combat inflation with the risk of raising interest rates too much, which could potentially lead to a recession. The effects of the 13 consecutive rate hikes will take time to fully manifest, due to delays in how changes in policy rates impact other interest rates and the cumulative nature of these increases. The economy, already grappling with a cost-of-living crisis, is now facing the added burden of higher borrowing costs. Increased interest rates are likely to lead to a rise in bad debts, as both consumers and businesses may struggle to meet loan repayments. This situation poses risks for banks, with potential impacts on capital returns and asset quality. Additionally, the housing sector could face challenges, as higher mortgage rates might make it difficult for homeowners to manage their payments.

United Nations - Poverty Campaign
United Nations, a diplomatic and political international organisation that aims to maintain international peace and security, achieving international cooperation, developing friendly relations among nations, and serving as a centre for coordinating the actions of member nations. United Nations also campaigns against poverty and other economic issues.
United Nations Poster - Analysis and Critiques
The poster has a theme for light blue as well as their logo, the main component of this poster is a helmet illustrated out of continents and campaigns of all sorts. The title is clean with a san-serif font that says "International day of United Nations Peacekeepers". This poster was promoted back in 29 May, 2012.
This poster works well at capturing the eyes of people, as the background is clean, with only one thing in the middle of it which is a helmet.
How United Nations advertises their services
Media Outreach - UN uses traditional media such as television, radio, newspapers, and digital media such as social media platforms and websites to raise awareness about its work. Other campaigns use this method to promote their campaign
Content Creation - The UN creates documentaries, infographics, articles, and reports that showcase their programs and successes. These contents are often shared online through their websites and social media channels.
Digital Campaigns - Most campaigns, including UN, promote their campaign by the use of hashtags on social media platforms for users to engage with their posts. For example, a campaign might use "#EndWars" at the end of their post about wars.
Government Partnerships - The UN works with member states to promote their initiatives, provide technical support, and support policy development.

Primary and Secondary Research Definitions
Primary research collects new data directly, while secondary research analyses existing data:
Primary Research
Primary research is original research that can be obtained by gathering first-hand information to address a problem. Primary research can be conducted through various of different methods such as Interviews, Vox Pops, Online surveys and statistics. Primary research commonly includes methods describing how the data was generated.
Secondary Research
Desk research (Sec Research) is research that can be done online and written pieces of information which has already been collected by other people. Secondary research can include literature revies, meta-analyses, and comments on primary research. Secondary Research often comes from the Government's data documents, statistical databases, and historical records.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Primary and Secondary Research
Primary Research
Advantages of Primary Research
-Primary research provides more specific and actionable data. Its made to address your specific desired questions.
-Primary research can provide a real-time view of what your customers and prospects need.
-Primary research is designed to be relevant and up-to-date, which can help identify accurate trends
-Primary research can be more efficient and cost-effective than other methods because you have full control over the approach, data collection, and analysis.
Disadvantages of Primary Research
-Primary research can be expensive to conduct, especially when designing, recruiting participants, and collecting and analysing data.
-Primary research can be time consuming, especially if a large sample size is required
-Designing and conducting primary research may lack context from research on related subjects.
-Respondents may be biased or may not fully understand a question, leading to misleading or inaccurate responses.
Secondary Research
Advantages of Secondary Research
-Secondary research is often cheaper than starting a new research project because the data is already available.
-Secondary research is faster than primary research because data is already published and doesn't need to be collected
-Secondary research allows access to large datasets that may be difficult to gather otherwise.
-Secondary data sources are widely available, including in local libraries and online.
Disadvantages of Secondary Research
-The quality of the secondary research depends on the quality of the original sources
-The data may not be applicable to your specific research question.
-Some secondary research can be out of date which will make your research non relevant
-The data may not fit the same frame or boundaries as your primary data collection.
Differences between Quantitative Data and Qualitative Data
Quantitative Data
Quantitative data is numerical data that can be counted or measured, this data will always be expressed as numbers. It can also be used to answer questions that begin with "How many" or "How often".
Quantitative questions examples:
How often do you shop for groceries?
How many days per week do you work out?
Qualitative Data
Qualitative data is a type of information that is non numeric, unlike qualitative data, quantitative data is collected through interviews, observations, or questionnaires. This data can be used to describe qualities or characteristics, and is often presented in narrative form.
Examples of Qualitative questions:
Exploratory questions; What do you think about Chocolate cake?, Does chocolate cake tastes better with orange juice?
Questions about experiences: Can you share your experience with trying our new product? Do you think your experience might be relatable to some people?
Questions about perspectives: What are your views about Barbel curls at the gym? Have you noticed any new techniques that you implement in your lifting routine?
What is a Tagline
A tagline is a short, memorable phrase that companies use to promote themselves to people and communities, it expresses the value of brands and companies. Taglines often appear in marketing and can appear on websites online and TV commercials.
Example of a Tagline
M&M's - Melts in your mouth, not in your hands
Nike - Just do it
KFC - Its finger lickin' good
Elements of an Identity
Elements of an Identity refers to the key components that make up a logo or brand, such key elements include Logo design, the name of the logo, the font the logo has, the spacing and sizing of the font, the positioning and the colour of the logo and font.
Organisations can also develop identities through their services they provide, such as helping people with their problems, or any movement the organisation might take part in.
Elements of an Identity are a crucial part of a brand, these characteristics help demonstrate the brands identity from little to big key components of a logo or brand.
Purpose of an Identity
The purpose of identity in organisations is to provide a strong foundation for their marketing, making sure the message is consistent and resonates with their target audience. For example, Dove's "Real Beauty" campaign leveraged its iconic logo and typography to create personalized soap boxes, making it a global success.
This poster has an element of photography in it, featuring different photos of women who seem satisfied with the product Dove is selling, the photos have a white background which flows with the rest of the slight-grey background for the main poster. Obviously the poster includes the company's logo with the golden dove (bird) and below the text has a bold, all caps, san-serif font which spells out "Real Beauty Campaign". The poster shows trustworthiness in their products as the poster empathises with people based on the photography of happy women.
38 Degrees Identity analysis
38 Degrees is a British non-for-profit political-activism organisation. It is a progressive organisation that campaigns for fairness, defend rights, promote peace, preserve the planet and deepen democracy in the UK.
Here are some famous 38 Degrees campaigns:
Climate Change: 38 Degrees has supported campaigns for stronger climate action by advocating more ambitious targets on reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy
Support for Refugees: 38 Degrees has run campaigns to improve the UK's response to the refugee crisis by making calls for more humane treatment and support for individuals seeking asylum.
Corporate Accountability: 38 Degrees has set up campaigns targeting corporate practices, such as demanding better transparency and ethical behaviour from large corporations.
Their logo has a bright orange background that really stands out. Their logo has an eye-catching white san-serif text for their logo, composed of the number 38 as the biggest component of their logo and the all caps degrees, also they have a sub-title that is in lower caps. Their logo has a very clean design that stands out.
Experimental Jetset - Poster Research
Experimental Jetset is a small, independent, Amsterdam-based graphic design studio, it was founded by Marieke Stolk, Erwin Brinkers and Danny van den Dungen back in 1997. The company focuses on printed matter and site-specific installations, they describe their methodology as "turning language into objects". Experimental Jetset have worked on projects for lots of institutes.
Experimental Jetset has been involved in group exhibitions such as 'Graphic Design: Now in Production' in 2011 and 'Ecstatic Alphabets / Heaps of Language' in 2012, Their artwork was also published in the Modern Art in New York.
Experimental Jetset Posters
Experimental Jetset has made really unique artworks and illustrations by using words and sentences to create artwork that really grabs peoples attention, they happen to use one type of font which is a san-serif font, Experimental Jetset uses colours for their posters that match together to create attractive posters.
This poster is a lovely example of their work, it highlights their key components that they use to make their posters such as the nice black and white theme (black for their background and white for the font), the main thing that this poster has is its big, san-serif font title. The poster also has a unique semi-circle pattern and another line based artwork which represents the letter "A" which adds to the creativity of the poster. The poster includes sub-headings that mention the topic of the poster.
Another poster that Experimental Jetset has done is this:
This poster features all the letters in the alphabet in a san-serif text which is the main component of this poster. the background if very basic, featuring a blank white colour, the only eye catching component this poster has is the bright red "Helvetica" which stands out the most from this poster.
Constructivists
The Constructivists were a collective of avant-garde artists, architects, and designers who came to prominence in post-revolutionary Russia, and was founded in 1915 by Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko, during the early phase of Soviet socialism. Their goal was to produce art and design that reflected the new social order, prioritizing functionality, utility, and the use of industrial materials and techniques. Constructivism sought to challenge conventional ideas of fine art, focusing instead on creating practical, socially relevant works.
The Constructivists Poster Analysis
This famous poster created by El Lissitzky "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge" in 1919, this poster was influenced by political propaganda which was created during the Russian civil war. The war was fought Between the Bolsheviks (Reds) and the White Army (Whites)
This poster is composed of:
-The red wedge which represents the Bolsheviks.
-The poster has white circles which represents the White Army.
-The poster has abstract shapes which represents the Constructivists movement.
-The poster uses minimal colours which are white, red, and black.
-The poster also has Russian text which translates the title of the poster.
-The poster has a white border which adds to the aesthetic.
This poster has a unique aesthetic which serves as a political representation of the civil war, the abstract shapes helps the poster stand out
The Constructivists Poster - Experimental
I've created this poster on Illustrator using shapes and text, I've gotten inspiration from the The Constructivists which are famous for using shapes in their posters. The text is in Russian which translates "Experiment" as this poster is technically an experiment.
I am proud of this poster, I really love the creativity and the simplicity this poster has and I'm hoping I will get to do more cool stuff like this in the future.
These are my powerpoint presentation slides that I will use to present to the class about my campaign and the ways I will promote it.
Campaign Poster Experimental - Illustrator
This is a poster I've made using Illustrator. I've used sentences to compose an artistic depiction of a house, these sentences talk about the problems with UK housing, from how expensive housing accommodation is to the struggles of living in poverty. I've also changed the colour of the roof to red which adds to the aesthetics, The sentences below the house are meant to discuss housing problems, much like the sentences that I've used to create the house, I also highlighted the main words in red which are 'Homes and Housing' as this poster talks about housing problems. Finally I finished the poster by adding a black barrier and the Shelter logo, to make the poster look realistic.
This poster was inspired by 'Experimental Jetset' as they are famous for creating posters using words and symbols.
This poster looks great, its clean and aesthetic which provides a nice visual aspect, the highlighted red text adds to the eye-catching aspect. I like making posters like this as I can get to be creative with them.
Campaign Logo Design
I've made this campaign logo using Illustrator that I can then use for my posters to make them look more realistic and nice, since my campaign is named Together Home, I have thought of two people high-fiving, creating the outline for the roof of the house, then I added two squares with black crosses on them along with a door in the middle, illustrating a home. I finished the logo with my title, Together Home.
Campaign Poster Design - Illustrator
Ive started working on this poster that supports my campaign, I thought of adding a bright pink background by using the shape tool and a vector map of the UK in the middle as it suggests that the problems occur in the UK. I have many ideas that I plan on using to create this poster.
Campaign Poster Design - Finished Product
This is my finished product, I have outlined the uk in a white outline and Illustrated some homes using the pen tool. I used the shape tool for the background which consist of black and pink. I then used the text tool to type a relatable problem people have in the UK along with a fake website link for the realism of the poster. I finally drew some green arrows pointing from house to house indicating moving from house to house, I also added my logo on the poster is well.
I really like this poster, the black and pink goes well together and also makes the text pretty legible. I really like making posters like this
Second Campaign Poster
This is my second campaign poster that I've worked on Illustrator, I have used the gradient tool for the sky background and also used the shape tool for the house design. I have also used the pen tool for the character design along with the ground and grass design. I have finished the poster with my logo on the top right corner and added some text.
Lighting
What is Lighting?
Lighting is used in film and photography to guide attention, create texture or visual impact, and create an atmosphere on the subject being filmed or photographed, lighting can be used to tell a story by adjusting certain features of light in order to get a desired effect upon the subject, sharp light can promote a more mysterious and dark character by creating sharp shadows around the subject's face, almost as if the character is hiding from something, where as a more softer light can promote a more open and outgoing appearance by using shadows that blend together to show more of the subject's face.
Elements of Lighting
Natural Lighting
Natural lighting refers to the use of available light resources such as sunlight or practical lighting, it is used to create a more realistic scene without any usage of artificial lighting. This type of lighting is often used in outside interviews, or wildlife documentaries.
Example
The natural lighting portrayed in this photo seems to be radiating from the outside environment, lighting up the room with sunlight which also creates shadows from the windows on the floor of the building, the green light also seems to radiate on the edge of the window rims, promoting a lively environment, this photo is a good example of natural lighting
Key Light
Key lighting refers to the main light source that is being used to highlight the form of the subject and dimension. Key lighting can be achieved through natural or artificial lighting, key lighting is often used in movies to film the setting, or the main character of the film, key lighting creates a revealing atmosphere were the audience can clearly see the subject/character.
The key light in this photo is coming out of a big lamp, which is an artificial light source that is typically used for filming and photography purposes.
Hard Lighting
Hard Lighting is often used in photography to create a mysterious and dark effect on the subject, hard lighting creates dark and sharp shadows around the subjects face, which makes the subject somewhat hidden away from exposure to light, almost as if the subject is trying to hide something away from the audience. Hard Lighting is often used in Noir films (black and white films) to display certain characters in certain scenes.
This photo is a perfect example of Hard Lighting, its a black and white photo of a man with old fashioned clothes, the hard lighting causes his hat to blend in with the shadow of the wall, the hat also has a sharp dark shadow that splits the hat in half, making the character look mysterious and secretive.
Soft Light
Unlike Hard Lighting, Soft Lighting promotes warmer shadows, exposing the subject or characters face, Soft Lighting provides bright and balanced light that flows well with one another. Soft Lighting is used in photography for beauty advertisements, where the subject in the photo has soft shadows and vibrant light that exposes the subjects face along with the product the subject may hold. Soft Lighting creates a friendly environment where the audience feels somewhat attached and welcomed to the character or subject.
This photo is a lovely example of Soft Lighting, the subject in this photo has a soft shadow that runs down her face which also blends with her skin, most of these soft shadows blends with her skin creating tone and contrast.
Bounce Light
Bounce light is light that being bounced of a bounce board, reflector or other light coloured surface, Bounce light causes the light to spread at greater distances that its original source. Bounce light is a technique used in photography that is used to soften the shadows that are created by the key light. Much like soft light, bounce light is also used in beauty advertisements, bounce light is also can sometimes be used in drama films, bounce light creates a balanced look on the subject, making the audience more connected with the subject/character.
This photo has a great level of bounce light that removes some level of the hard light created by the key light, bounce light makes the photo look warm and comforting. In this photo, the bounce light seems to be coming onto her left side of her jaw.
Side Lighting
Side Lighting is light that appears on the subject at a 90 degrees to the camera, Side Lighting exposes half of the subject in pure light while the other half in pure darkness, this type of lighting is often used in photography to show two type of meanings of the subject/character. In film, this type of lighting is used to show two sides of a character, whether it is the characters personality or lifestyle. Side Lighting creates this feeling of untrustworthiness towards the character in shot.
This photo is a perfect example of Side Lighting, one half of his face is in pure darkness while the other half is exposed to some degree, this photograph makes the audience feel scared and worried of the characters intentions and actions.
Overall, Lighting can be used in many ways to tell a story whether is a dramatic story or horror story, lighting is an important element in film and photography which can bring meaning to the character's personality.
Surrealism
Experimental Poster
I made this surreal poster using Illustrator that represents homelessness, I used the pen tool to do most of the work, as surreal art is mostly artistic perspective, I drew and coloured half of a mans face and the other half f I drew a floating island with a kids drawing of a house. Finally, I finished off the background by using the shape tool to and split the background in 3 different shades of orange, then I made a black border around the poster to make it stand out.
I made it like this to represent that the homeless man has always thought of living in a home since childhood, but never given the opportunity to.
I've enjoyed making surreal artwork on Illustrator, it made me expand my artistic skills and develop new software skills along the way. I would love to do more posters like this in the future.
Surreal - Research
What is Surrealism?
Surrealism is a philosophical and artistic movement developed in the twentieth-century that aimed to explore the unconscious mind through bizarre imagery, poetry and artistic views. Surrealism has a goal of changing the human experience by making a balance in rational vision of life with one that establishes the power of the unconscious dreams. Surreal artists find strange beauty in uncanny imagery and the unexpected.
Why is Surrealism used in Campaigns?
Surrealism is used in campaigns and advertising as a way to engage and captivate audiences by depicting implicit meanings in surreal imagery, Surrealism allows campaigns and brands to differentiate themselves to make them stand out from the populated marketplace. Surrealism is often used in advertising and marketing as it provides audiences with escapism from reality which people crave, sometimes surrealism can establish strong emotional connections with their audience.
Lex Drewinski
Lex Drewinski is famous for creating simple posters with powerful meanings that aims to make the audience think of the implicit meaning behind his posters, he gets inspiration from real world problems and illustrates them on digital software.
One of my favourite Lex Drewinski posters - Analysis
This poster looks like a rocket that is shaped like a boomerang with a vibrant red background, this poster looks very basic but clean which adds to the visual appeal. This poster, however, has a implicit meaning, my guess is that Drewinski tried to depict war, judging by the rocket/missile shape, and that what goes around comes around, hence the boomerang shape, it shows how wars will continue to last, creating a boomerang effect until one of the countries stops fighting back.
How does this poster appeal to audience?
The vibrant red background grabs peoples attention while the black, boomerang shaped missile tells a story that can only be accessed by the audiences imagination. It allows the audience to escape reality, creating a world of their own as they come up with their own version of a story that the poster depicts. Because of this, audiences will feel more drawn to posters with an implicit meaning.
Surrealism used in advertising
This poster was used for advertising against smoking which was published by an Anti-Smoking Campaign. The surrealism in this poster is the burger which happens to be composed of smoked cigarettes with a subtitle saying "Don't inhale your food.". The meaning behind this poster is that some people prefer smoking cigarettes instead of eating real food, which of course is bad for the human body as cigarettes do not provide any macronutrients or calories for the human body to function properly.
Campaign Pitch
Campaign Objective
My campaign will be about housing problems and how housing problems leads people to live in poverty. The campaign's goal is to fix housing problems by executing fundraisers and events that will provide construction companies more support in order to build more homes in the UK, to create a stable ratio between houses and population.
Key Message
The key message that my campaign will demonstrate is teamwork, with teamwork, we can put an end to housing problems if we all unite together and donate some pocket change to this campaign. Team work will allow this campaign to be quite effective in fighting housing problems.
Background/current situation
The UK is facing some serious housing problems, 300 000 homes were supposed to be build to accommodate the on growing population of the UK, but unfortunately did not happen. Rent is getting to high and often leads people in poverty after their housing expenses.
Target Audience
My target audience will be people who are struggling to afford houses and people who are struggling to pay rent or people who are left living in poverty after paying their housing expenses.
Concept of my Campaign
My campaign will focus on organising and establishing fund raisers and events in order to support construction companies in order to build more homes for the UK, with this goal in mind, my campaign will provide effective solutions to overcome housing problems.\
My Campaign Plan
I will start first by creating posters and a website that will promote my campaign and advertise them to people who can relate to housing problems. Then I would organise events and fundraisers that would help my campaign grow.
Research
I will conduct primary and secondary research to help me get a better perspective about housing problems and can find better solutions for my campaign to use against housing problems. For Primary research, I will make online surveys and I can interview some people who struggle with housing problems. For Secondary research, I will use online articles and books to gain more knowledge about this topic. This type of research would help my campaign get a broader perspective which can lead to more effective solutions.
My Campaign Name - List of ideas
- Together Home
- United Houses
- My Home
Campaign Presentation Pitch
I have presented my campaign pitch to my class and shared everything that I plan on doing on with my campaign, I have also gotten some valuable feedback and some suggested charities that I can cooperate with. My pitch lasted 5 minutes as that was the limited time I had to present. I have received a feedback sheet, written to me by my teacher which has important information.
The name for my campaign will be Together Home. It is a nice clean name that stands out and gives a hit about what the campaign might be about.
Vox Pop Planning- Together Home Campaign
What is a Vox Pops?
Vox Pops are short videos or video collages of people's voices under two minutes long, Vox Pops are often used for interviews to gain opinions from the public on certain topics for primary research purposes to collect real life data. Vox Pops can also be used to explain certain ideas or topics under 2 minutes through images with little to no words throughout the presentation.
Together Home Vox Pops Interview Questions
I have though of a series of questions that might provide me with helpful answers for my research, these questions are all related to the Housing Problems that people face in the UK which will give me data that I can use for my campaign.
Here are the questions:
- Do you often end up in poverty after your housing expenses? e.g rent, bills or taxes
- How difficult is it for you to live after you have payed rent/bills?
- Do you wish for any house benefits from the government?
Lighting - Vox Pops
I am planning on performing my Vox Pops in a studio where natural lighting is somewhat limited, My main light will be natural lighting coming from the studio's windows, I will also pair this lighting with a bounce light from the opposite side of the person to get a balanced ratio between the natural light and the bounce light, making the person stand out more.
Sketch Example:
Here is a sketch plan of what the studio is going to look like with the lighting system that is going to be used for my Vox Pops
Subjects/People I'm Interviewing
The people I will be interviewing are going to be classmates as they are the closest to me who I can come in contact with and who are truly reasonable with the idea of being in my Vox Pops, unlike some strangers. Most of my classmates are between the ages of 17 - 19 which will give me the opportunity to get mature responses regarding to my questions.
Location - Vox Pops
I will be hosting my Vox Pops in a studio since its my only available location, if the studio is already being utilised by someone else I might use one of our classrooms or wait for the person to finish in the studio. Having access to locations like this are great as I can easy interview classmates without having to search for people to interview.
Props - Vox Pops
The idea of having props in your shoot sounds great as it provides a more natural and inviting atmosphere. However, I do not think I will use much props at all as I may not have access to them in the first place, this Vox Pops is doable without the assistance of props.
Continuity - Vox Pops
Continuity refers to the idea of filming everything in one take without having to film in two separate days as the person you're trying to interview might change clothes and the film will look a bit dodgy. To prevent this from happening, I will ensure to use questions that require quick responses and make sure to not extend the Vox Pops longer than 7 minutes.
Target Audience
The target audience I'm going to aim at are people who deal with housing problems, that way I can get a first hand true opinion that I can use for my campaign. Using people who are dealing with housing problems to answer my questions is going to be the most effective answer source for my Vox Pops
Vox Pops - Social Campaign
This is my Vox Pops where I interviewed 3 people and asked them questions based on my social campaign. This Vox Pops is very short but has given me enough information to help me throughout my development of this campaign.
Together Home Social Campaign Video
This is my social campaign video that I created using Premier Pro. I have used a sound recorder and a camera to record and film. I have also filmed different locations around the college campus in order to build in an atmosphere. I have finished the film by adding my logo and some sad ambient music in the background.
Audience Theory
Audience Theory refers to how people interpret media they come across online or through advertisements. Audiences can either be active or passive depending on which topic is discussed throughout media.
Passive Audience
A passive audience accepts implicit messages in media text without challenge and are more likely to be affected by the messages. This can negatively affect the audience by believing everything they see online without challenging themselves in asking questions or researching about the topic.
Active Audience
An active audience engages with media they might be interested in, active audiences will also research and asks questions online to encode ideas in order to get proper views and ideas. Active Audiences will also try to apply the information they learned into real life aiming to achieve positive impacts.
Types of Audience Theories:
Constructionist view: The audience create their own meaning of a media topic based on their own experiences and point of view, this type of audience often share biased opinions and experiences which might not relate to other people.
Reflective view: The viewer accepts the implicit meaning passively within a media topic created by the media producer. This can make the audience believe any media they see without having any second thoughts to research in order to confirm the information.
Audience engagement theory: Audiences are either passive or active on certain media topics depending on what they are doing or where they are. This can make audiences motivated to engage in activities the media may promote.
Uses and gratifications theory: This audience attempts to explain why some people choose to engage with certain media texts. This audience often likes to research express their opinions for their explanations in media.
Spiral of silence: This audience fears social isolation and attempts to engage with others through media to assess popular opinions. This audience relies on other people to respond to their opinions which makes them more attached to this audience theory
Media effects theory: This audience thinks that media implants certain ideas in the mind of people whether is good or bad. This type of audience likes to spread awareness towards other people
Together Home - Website
https://dennis002452.wixsite.com/together-home-1
Here is my social campaign website that I've made using Wix. This is the home page which has a donation tab where people from across the UK can donate to help my campaign grow, I have also added a brief description about the donation and how it works.
This is my "Projects" page where viewers can get to see which cities my campaign operated in. I've added this page for the realism and also to tell the viewers that my company works all across the UK.
This is my "About Us" page where viewers can see what my campaign is about, I've described everything my campaign does so that the viewers can get a broader understanding of my campaign.
I've also added a "Contact" page where viewers can contact the campaign via email, this page is for those who have complaints or any problems with my campaign.
Evaluation - Unit 9
How does my campaign compare with other campaigns?
I have taken inspiration from Shelter, a social campaign that focuses on housing problems and homelessness. In my social campaign video, I have used key components much like what Shelter has used to promote their campaign, I have interviewed a fake homeless person and have also filmed outside shots of the homeless person wandering around the college campus, pretending to be lost and cold, to add to the realism of the video. For my posters, I have made sure to make my posters engage-able with the target audience by asking relevant questions to some extent.
Research I used for inspiration
I have mainly used secondary research to get inspiration for my social campaign,I have also done some primary research where I interviewed college students about their opinions on housing problems. I have researched multiple social campaigns such as 38 Degrees, United Nations and Shelter. The one social campaign that I got inspiration from the most was Shelter. Shelter has a great way of promoting their campaign through social media and youtube. I also like the way Shelter makes their posters, their posters engage with their audience which can make people donate to their campaign. I have adopted some elements and tactics Shelter uses to promote their campaign.
Reasons I chose the products for my campaign
I have chosen to do multiple products that could lead my campaign to success such as 2 posters, a social campaign video, and a website. I have created my posters for the purpose of promoting my campaign towards my target audience, I have made my social campaign video for people to get an idea of what my campaign is all about, I have also planned on making a website where I planned on having a donation page where people can donate to my campaign, but unfortunately, my time had ran out although I did manage to get in some work done on my website.
Products that communicates my campaign message the best
I think the number one product of mine that best communicates my campaign message has to be the social campaign video. I have included elements of empathy which can engage with the audience emotionally, I have also made my message clear in the video by stating how many homeless people have spend the night on the streets. I have also added emotional music on top of my recording to further engage with the audience's emotions.
What Im asking my audience to do
I am simply asking my audience to donate some pocket change towards my campaign in order to help those in need. As little as £1 can help the people in need of a home, that money donated can be used for construction purposes to build more homes and social housing and also that money can then be used to help homeless people get a grip of their lives by providing them with a secure job and a place to stay for the month. If my campaign gets the attention of a big enough audience, then my campaign will truly be successful in helping homeless people and those in need.
My Target Audience
My target audience is aimed towards rich people or people who would like to donate towards my campaign, my target audience have to be 18+ to donate. Instead of my audience wasting money on stuff they might not truly need, I can influence them to donate towards my campaign, which can make a change. I would also like my campaign to spread awareness throughout the whole UK, that way I can get more people to donate.
What items I think appeals towards my audience the most
The product I think appeals the most with my audience is the social campaign video, because the video engages with the audience in a emotional way, I think that it will be more liked and preferred by my audience as it makes them feel empathetic towards the victim in my video
